Her foresight is what resonates most. Avram designed MARC not for the technology of her day, but for a future she knew would come. She built a structure so robust and logically sound that it became the foundation for nearly every library catalog in the world for decades. She understood that the true power of a system lies not in its immediate utility, but in its ability to create clear, unambiguous paths for future users and future technologies. In our rush to optimize for the latest algorithm, we could learn from her discipline. The goal is not just to be found today, but to build a library of content that remains navigable and meaningful long after our own technologies are obsolete.
